We managed to leave the house by 10am yesterday. Not bad, considering Pat had to pay bills and pack before we left. Then we had to stop at the Accountant's office to drop off our 2008 taxes (yes, that's right, 2008), then a nice breakfast of flapjacks, and we were on our way. We drove almost non-stop to Bayfield and got here around 4:30pm. Listened to Jon Krakauer's newest book for a couple hours which got to be a bit too much to absorb. Tomorrow we have a long drive to Copper Harbor so will probably make more progress then.
We're staying at the Garden Guest House right across from Lake Superior. Damn, I love the Lake from any angle. We both feel like we're in Grand Marais: lots of boats and cute old buildings. Bayfield seems richer though. More artisans in evidence. Our accomodations are okay but I'm disappointing in a few practical matters. The room is pleasing to the eye and has a nice view but there is no closet and no chest of drawers. One very small rack for hanging clothes. It seems wildly impractical for a longer stay and is annoying enough to have suitcases everywhere for just two nights.
We've eaten at two different places that are owned by the same people. Had an excellent dinner at Maggie's and breakfast this morning at Egg Toss, just around the corner from our room. I'll now attempt to upload pictures of our place and the view:

Fall 2009 The double sliding doors are to our room. Notice that there are no other windows on the main floor--this makes for a dark room. There's a kitchen area with sink, burners, microwave, and mini fridge, and outfitted will all kitchen gadgets. Also a wide screen flat panel TV.
This is our view, which is nicer than the picture:

Fall 2009 Today we will just be lazy, see some shops, maybe visit a winery.
