And she's back

after a bit of a rough week. Entirely my own fault, granted, but still. Way too much work and a little too much play.

It's Mod week in Scotland, which means that the college is pretty much empty. Which is good for me - with Colin and Ishi gone (the one left yesterday, the other this morning), I can have a day or two of detox. And some time to work, too.

There's not really any news -- um, I got back my first assessment (Short stories in-class short essays; as Iain said to us, "Cha do rinn duine agaibh brochan dheth" ("no one made porrige of it" ie bungled it really badly), but I was pretty well convinced I was the exception -- he had one question asking us to explain the imagery and symbolism in the story, and I had just about finished up talking about colors when I realized there were 5 minutes left and I still had another question to go ... so I didn't even get to touch the really cool bits of symbolism and the really rockin' imagery. So yeah, I didn't think I done too well.) But I got an 80% on it, which apparently in the Scottish system is a very high A. So that was nice. And Iain's comments were cool and helpful as well, particularly regarding scholarly language (for example, I never really knew what the difference was between a "sgeul" and a "sgeulachd," so I'd been kind of using them interchangably. But "sgeulachd" is what you should use in a literary context, where I think "sgeul" is more specific to folklore, the telling of a tale, etc. Meant to see what Maighstir Mark and Maighstir Dwelly had to say about that ... will do that when I get back to my room.)

Yup. That's about it. Sent an email to Ross (my teacher from the short course) last night, and got a lovely reply back this morning -- cool guy. also, THOMAS IS BACK!! And the masses rejoice :)
