Thanksgiving

Nov 25, 2010 12:52

First off, thank you all for your good wishes :) I am, in fact, sick as a dog, but I'm feeling enough better today that I'm going on with Thanksgiving as planned, though I've warned my guests that I may or may not be contagious. We'll see if they still show!

Turkey's in the oven, pie and pumpkin custard are baked, gratin's assembled and ready to go in the oven, cranberry salad is ready except for the pecans (they have to be added right before you serve it), stuffing is prepped but not assembled (just have to mix the wet ingredients with the dry and toss it into a casserole dish), brussel sprouts are washed, trimmed, and halved, and are now waiting to be tossed with olive oil and sea salt. All I have left to do is fuss with the potatoes (I'll start chopping them when the stuffing goes into the oven), hollow out the pumpernickel boule I got and fill it with spinach dip, and keep track of time so things are ready at more or less the same time.

Oh, and clean the house. That's got to happen too. Oops.

Well, at the moment, I'm taking a break, dammit. I feel like warmed-over crap, dayquil notwithstanding. And my leg hurts. *grumble*

BUT. I have an awful lot of things to be grateful for in my life. I've got a wonderful, supportive boyfriend who helps me prepare ridiculous amounts of food and washes neverending piles of dishes for me, even as I'm creating more of them; I have good friends to share my bounty with; I have an awesome family, including a new niece; I have a sweet little apartment, however messy it may be; I'm getting *paid* to learn the things I love; I have pretty good health, this week's flu notwithstanding; I can walk and run again after getting my leg crushed by a gravel truck, and it hasn't even been two years since the accident. All in all, things are pretty great.

OK, I'm going to go clean my house now, so it's presentable when Erin and Sìm get here. See y'all later.
