Um, so I spent a substantial portion of today in the hospital.
Matthieu was apparently leaping down the stairs of the Warren House three at a time as he usually does, but his ankle rolled on the final leap (i.e. on the ground), and he fell and hurt his foot. He was feeling OK, so went to class -- we were going to go to lunch between 12 and 1, and he was limping but still felt OK at that point, so we went to lunch as soon as I made him promise that we'd go to the hospital right afterwards.
After lunch, he could barely move. So we limped to UHS with his leaning on my shoulder, we waited, he got seen by somebody, we waited, they took an X-ray, we waited, he met with someone (not the radiologist, who - of course - won't be in until Monday) who didn't see anything majorly wrong from the X-ray, got him crutches as throughout the hour or so preceeding his foot had gotten progressively more and more painful, the nurse showed him how to use the crutches, he came back to the waiting room, and passed out. Turned dead white, told me he needed to get to a bathroom -- then suddenly there were four of us (2 nurses, a doctor, and me) trying to keep him upright enough to roll a chair under him and roll him to the nearest bed.
So he lay there for a while, grousing when the nurses put ice packs on his neck and forehead and when they wouldn't let him lie on his side, and then after another 1/2 hour or 45 minutes, they gave us a voucher for a cab ride home.
He seems to be fine -- aside from his sprained ankle or whatever it is -- but it was pretty scary. I'm glad that a) I insisted he go to the hospital and b) I insisted on staying with him.
So that's today! So much for all the work I was going to get done. But on the upside, I did manage to finish sock #1 of the pair for him! Pictures forthcoming.
Here's hoping the rest of the weekend is less eventful.
ow!,
