Hi, folks!
Well, it's Sunday. The party at Alexa's last night was lots of fun - I
dressed up:
(this was still during the makeup test, but with the addition of the corset to the costume)
(Final incarnation, with big hair, costume, and shawls)
Walking there was interesting. Matthieu, who doesn't like makeup at all as a general rule, was so hilariously distressed by all the eyeliner that I'm considering going goth for real until I wear him down.
But the getting ready was great fun, and a good time was had by all at the soiree itself. Alexa made this wonderful black pasta (not normal pasta dyed with squid ink, but pasta made from black soybeans -- very tasty, actually!) with a tomato-eggplant sauce, there was a napa cabbage salad with pomegranates, and Cory made a wonderful three-pepper (white, black, and paprika) chocolate torte. And we had rambutans, because they looked festive (winners, by the way -- they're like lychees, only tart!). We drank wine and chartreuse and other interesting things, Alexa told our fortunes with her hand-made deck of Tarot cards, and we had a ball. She also outdid herself (no mean feat) in decorating -- the whole flat was lit with red lights and candles, and it was all very atmospheric.
And I think that's the news. We have three very impressive (if I do say so myself) jack-o-lanterns leering at me from atop the fridge at the moment -- we ought to move those to the porch, actually, now that I think of it -- and a giant bowl of toasted pumpkin seeds on the table. And over all? Life's pretty good. Check you later.
