Today I bake cookies, wrap presents, and admire how gorgeous my (fake) tree looks. And I drink chai and browse tha intarwebs and hide out from the last-minute holiday traffic, so glad I don't have last-minute shopping to do!
I have two Harry Potter ornaments on my tree and also several very pretty glass ones. I've never gotten over the habit of hanging the glass ornaments up high. My late and much-missed Aleister Monster would always want to "help me decorate" any of my trees. You know the drill - chew on the branches, swat at the ornaments, lie down on the Christmas tree skirt and demand attention. So all the glass ornaments had to go up high where a large, stripy paw could not get at them.
My kitty girls, Stella and Madeleine, ignore the tree. It's neither catnip-scented nor turkey-flavored, so why should they bother? Definitely not worth rousing themselves from flannel-sheeted slumber to inspect! Now when it comes time to open their presents, they might think differently.
And yes, I did buy presents for the cats. Also for my parents' dog. How many of you buy presents for the pets?
Life is good! I'm inside with a nice, hot cup of chai and a maple old-fashioned donut, and not outside in the cold, the damp, and the burgeoning traffic.
