We had a "little" storm this afternoon...
After almost four months of extremely dry weather, we learned this week that a thunderstorm had been forecast for today. The "Weather Tracker" on my computer had been sending out storm warnings throughout the day. At around 4.00 pm I heard thunder. Then "thunk, thunk, thunk". I looked out the window and could see hail bouncing around off the cars (mine included) and all over the carpark. Some of them were about 25mm x 12.5mm (1" x 1/2")! Luckily it wasn't falling too heavily, so no damage was done (that I could see).
By the time I left work, the rain had eased off and I had an easy drive home. Today is rubbish pick-up day, and I think more bins lay on their sides than there were standing up. Just after I arrived home, the thunder and lightning started again and it began to rain heavily.
Just listen to the noise - it was almost deafening!
Then the sun came out.
And a rainbow appeared.
Then a double rainbow...
Our street was a river.
The drains were overwhelmed with the quantity water dumped in the area. It has cleared now. Apparently we exceeded the entire month of March's average rainfall by 14mm in two hours! I know we were needing rain, but this is ridiculous! :) We've had another 4mm since then.
There's been quite a bit of damage done in Perth by this storm. Apartments at the foot of Mt Eliza (Kings Park) were evacuated when water and mud swept through the ground floor.
I'm sure there'll be a lot of stories on the news in the morning.
