Today has been an interesting day, to say the least.
First, I opened an email from a friend I used to work with. She told me that the replacement of the replacement for my old job has resigned! I can't really think of anything to say that wouldn't sound rude, so I won't - except perhaps for "serve them right" and thphsth!!! (how do you "write" a raspberry?!)
I can't believe it's been 10 weeks since all that unpleasantness happened. At least it's given me an opportunity to work in different environments, where I can pick up some more skills.
The second thing was entirely different. Over the last week, the company I'm temping for has been shifting office equipment, furniture, etc and large truckloads of stock (lengths of fabricated steel, etc) to new premises. Today was the first day I worked in the new office, which is situated upstairs and to one side of the warehouse.
Mid-morning, a large truck with a long trailer was reversing up the driveway towards the warehouse to drop off some more stock. All of a sudden there was a huge BANG! The building, constructed of concrete slabs, shook. We rushed to the window. The truck had reversed into the front wall! I had a look, and there was a hole punched right through the concrete slab into the ladies toilet. I could see out into the street! I must say I'm glad I wasn't in there at the time! From the outside, it's a fairly small hole, about 15cm (6") long by about 5cm wide (2"). However, on the inside, the concrete had exploded into the room. The damaged area is more than 60cm (2') in diameter. Big chunks of concrete were littered across the floor. Apparently the truck driver took the rest of the day off after that (and our nerves were so jangled, that every time we heard a loud noise, we flinched!)
