Time really flies! One year ago today I was shocked to learn that I had lost my job. Looking back, it was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. I've had an interesting year. As a temp, I worked at 13 different places over a total of 35 weeks, ending up permanently at the place I enjoyed working most! You just never know!
Well, the rain has finally arrived! At least, it's rained for more than one day at a time. This month we've had 80mm, almost half of it over the last 5 days. Unfortunately it's too late for farmers in some areas to plant their crops. It'll be a bleak year for them.
Rain means good news for the garden. Although some plants that germinated earlier in the season are flowering, I've got more tiny seedlings pushing their way through the soil after the last few days of rain.
New plants (and weeds!)
Linarias are now blooming in another part of the garden.
The Gilt Dragon grevillea is STILL flowering!
I've been trying to get a good picture of a flower on this Grevillea bush for a long time. Ta da!! This has a similar flower to the Gilt Dragon (above), but on a totally different type of bush. It has needle-sharp spines at the tip of the leaves, so it's always a matter of taking great care when approaching it! It is a "Canberra Gem" grevillea.
A close-up of some Geraldton Wax flowers. I'm amazed that this plant is even alive, let alone flowering! A few months ago the shrub snapped at ground level after a night of particularly heavy winds. All that held the trunk together was a small strip of bent-over wood. Our neighbour helped us out (Laurie's arm was still in a sling at the time) by standing it up so the two pieces came back togther, tied the plant to three stakes and used a waterproof sealant on the join. It's now covered in buds and opening flowers!
