It's been kind of a draining morning.

Willow (our 12 year old boxer) has been steadily degenerating for the past few months - the nerve damage in her spine is so bad now that she has lost a lot of muscle control on her left side, and has lost complete use of her left hind leg. It's made it impossible for her to climb stairs, get up to a standing position on her own, or walk across slippier surfaces. We set down little area rugs so she could limp her way from her bed to the food bowl in the kitchen. Her little face looks deformed now, as the left side has lost ALL the muscle. It literally just looks like skin covering skull, with huge dents over her eye socket and under her cheekbone. She can't move that eye anymore either.

At night she still sleeps with us in the room, but since we're on the second floor, Androo has to carry her down the stairs in the morning. This morning she flat-out refused to even try getting to a seated position, from which he usually grabs her to lift her up. She wouldn't move, not even for cheese. We finally managed to get her down the stairs, but now she's just laying on her pillow, panting and whining.

I've spend the morning calling my vet, another vet that does home visits, and removal/cremation services, looking at the most humane and least traumatic euthanasia options.

Let me tell you - NONE of them seem like anything short of traumatic. I am so tired of crying.
