So, I've been back in Chicago for a few days.
It is strange to realize how much different "grown up" life is here as opposed to what it is like in Bloomington. I think I sort of understand what people who didn't grow up in a big city feel like when they move to one. Not that I don't have the street smarts or understand public transportation or that I stare at big buildings in awe, but it is different to come back when I've done all of my turning into an adult in Bloomington. I haven't even ventured very far out of my apartment, what with all of the moving and settling, but I feel this sense of vastness that I didn't ever feel in Bloomington, that I didn't really feel when I lived here before. I guess I've become used to ruling my small domain in Bloomington and now I have to start almost from scratch again.
Living with my family is pretty easy so far. I have a compulsive obsession with keeping the kitchen clean and I cook when I am bored so they are all delighted with that, considering I am bored almost all the time. My sister has been pretty chill so far and my parents are hilarious, like usual. My cats aren't making me as sneezy as I thought they would, so that is nice, and they are really funny too. There is a really weird looking stray my mom has sort of adopted as an outdoor pet that they call Cowboy and I call Pancake, because during the winter it was so cold my mom would heat up a cast iron pancake griddle and wrap it in old towels for him to sleep on on our back porch. Then we have to brother/sister 4 year old retarded cats, Lupin and Dingle, the one year old grey and white maine coon with different colored eyes, Scotty, the 7 year old maine coon, Charlie, and the 12 year old grey and white short hair, Oz. Yes, that is five cats that live in our apartment, although Oz has moved outside pretty much full-time and Charlie is in and out all day. My mother is a crazy cat lady.
I think I'm going to wander around campus today, or at least go over to my mom's office and harass her for a little while. I am so bored around here right now. And since I don't have a job I can't really do anything to alleviate that boredom...vicious circle. Maybe I can convince mom or dad to go see The Kingdom with me tonight...
At any rate, I will most likely be back in Bloomington for Homecoming. 40% Steve is playing Friday and Hairbangers Ball is playing Saturday, possibly with my friend Pat's band opening for them. There will be tailgating and IU vs. Penn State. Should be a ridiculous time.
