My personal reasons were twofold - going from lots of hair to no hair, especially as a girl, is striking and gets people's attention. It's something that is often connected with chemo, so it seemed like an obvious link to me. Secondly, I lost a friend to cancer and saw another survive it. I'm keen to see cancer research funded.
So those were my reasons. You shouldn't go ahead and raise money because of pressure because someone else thinks you should, but if the idea doesn't offend you then perhaps it's worth it. It would be nice if people just gave away their money but they don't, they want it to be earned, whether it's a bike ride, a tv comedy night or someone shaking a bucket under their nose and telling them they're about to have their considerably long hair shaved off. You know a lot of people, your hair is quite a stand-out feature at the moment, removing it will have impact. So, if you want to, it's quite easy to capitalise on that impact for the good of others - but you should feel no obligation to do so.
