A-Kon

Just an FYI: I'm about to post probably another two updates in close succession. And possibly a f-locked third entry if I get around to it.

So I went to A-Kon this weekend. I actually didn't go to much of the con itself. Anyone who knows my proclivities toward cons knows that I prefer to work them rather than attend.

I worked Artist Alley Security under Josh. Getting there was something of an adventure. I misread his directions and didn't turn when I needed to. The con was in downtown Dallas and he had indicated I needed to take 45N and follow the signs that read 75 to Sherman. I read that as saying I needed to go to Sherman. Since I don't know Dallas like I do some areas of Austin and Houston, I had no idea where Sherman is. It's up near the Oklahoma border in case anyone is interested. When I got to McKinney, I called Josh and Matt and asked questions. I had gone about 30 miles north of where I needed to be.

Once I got back down to Dallas and my turn off, I got lost in Downtown Dallas (it's worse than Houston!) and had to call Matt (who is from Dallas and still had some trouble).

I was about an hour and a half late for my first shift, but Josh was cool. I had told him I might be late. Shifts went by quickly. We patrolled the Alley looking for trouble makers and shoplifters. Matt, Pheo and I eventually banded together and patrolled as one. We were also looking at hot girls and wondering if they were underage or not. We decided at the last convention that all cosplayers have to be over 18 so we don't get in trouble. It was really funny to watch us, actually. We'd be walking by and a hot girl would walk past and the three of us would turn in unison to watch her go by.

We've decided we need a magic vacuum that we can use to suck them straight into our hotel room (since we were all staying in the same room with Josh and Kat and various other people) and we would take shifts to go "check on them." What do you think? Sound like a plan? We liked it!

Saturday shift (1400-2000) was much the same, but we actually split up for awhile. Once we were off shift I went back to the room and died for about five hours. That made my sleep cycle kinda wacky. Especially since my Sunday shift started at 0800. Yeah...when the alarm clocks went off at 0700, Matt and I didn't want to get up (we were sharing the fold out couch). But we did.

The shift was slow to start and I got to think of twenty questions to ask the Suicide Girls that wouldn't start a riot. Steve told me I couldn't ask them to show their boobs. I was disappointed. Then we patrolled for a bit and then we helped get the raffle taken care of. Around noon, I started getting a killer headache. I think I was coming off of a sugar high in a bad way. All I'd eaten/drinken that day was Root Beer and sugary snacks. I ended up laying my head down and sleeping for about an hour. When I tried to get up, I was really shaky. So I tried to eat a sugar wafer to get a little boost in energy and I wanted to throw it back up.

Once I made it back to the room, I ate a couple of fruit cups and slept until about 1730. It was time for me to head back and I got a Denny's Boca Burger on the way back. That helped some.

All in all, the con was fun for me. I get to see some people I haven't seen in awhile and I got to do my butch thing.
