If anyone was to assume what time of day Mary Margaret liked best the answer would almost always be day time, but that wasn’t the truth. She liked nighttime best, when all the patrons of Storybrooke were all tucked into their beds. There was something mystifying and calming about looking out her window and seeing nothing but her town under the lamplights and knowing that tomorrow was coming soon. She liked new beginnings, new days.

She also liked that under the light of just the moon, everything seemed less difficult or complex. There were no shades of grey of hazy lines she was afraid to blur. Instead she was left with dark and light… love and fear… clear cut things that she didn’t have to define to anyone - namely herself.

Although generally comfortable with defining herself, except when she herself knew she was in the wrong, David wasn’t something she could define or defend. With his sweet smiles, playful eyes, and constant friendship, he was working his way into a place in her heart. A place that she knew he shouldn’t be in while he still had a wife. But, near the middle of the night, she would allow herself to forget about whom she was and who he was and his wife. At midnight she could just be the girl that was falling in love with the boy.

“Mary… Mary Margaret?” A voice came from behind her door.

She shook her head from her thoughts then, offering a quick glance to the clock in the centre of the town. It was their time. It was their midnight.

“David…” She managed to whisper, before slipping her door open to reveal the handsome man in front of her.

She ushered him in with a giggle and a wave of her hand, before closing the door behind him, careful to keep their volume down. Although Emma was sleeping in the second bedroom, she was glad to report that the blonde was a heavy sleeper. That and the fact that Emma enjoyed playing music as she slept, mostly because Storybrooke was too quiet for her. Something about growing up in cities, but Mary Margaret couldn’t remember the whole quote.

Her thoughts disappeared when he put his hand on her waist, pulling her in by the white silk robe on her body. She felt her face flush as her eyes reverted to the floor. It was during these moments that she could almost let herself believe that he was her Prince Charming and she could be his Snow White. Perhaps they could have been destined lovers in another world or another time. Maybe by believing in that, it made reality far less painful.

He pressed his lips against hers, all want and need and longing. She slid into his kiss, grasping at his shirt to keep herself steady. They fell into a pattern then, as he kissed her through her living room and past the kitchen into her bedroom. His clothes thrown down to the floor, and soon her robe lay discarded with them. In a matter of moments he pushed her onto the bed, then slid into her as deep as he could.

It was all pain and pleasure and needing to hurt each other because they were both hurting. This wasn’t the sort of thing found in fairy-tale story books. It was just another midnight.
