Afternoon All !
Once again it's been ages since my last confession !
The main news at the moment is that I'm bloody shattered. Had a few early starts over the weekend in London but have had early nights these last few nights but to no avail. Am looking forward to a nice lie in this Saturday, but sadly I can't have one as it's back to work on the bathroom as it's my first free weekend in a couple of weeks !
This weekend just gone I was in the big smoke. The primary reason was Emma's qualifying ceremony which was on Monday but we headed down on Saturday to do a bit of the tourist thing. My old school chum Vanessa wonderfully offered to put us up in her swanky flat in Shoreditch which was lovely as it saved us a fortune ! The weather was atrocious but we still managed to head over for a nice wander around the British Museum. The biggest clearing house for stolen loot in England :) The Rosetta Stone never fails to impress me and I also got a good look at some things I hadn't seen before too. The modern art temporary exhibits were cool too, I saw the gold Kate Moss and the big giant sleeping face - they were cool. The big silver lump - not so much. Ooo, and they had totem poles too which were cool !
Saturday night after a lovely Italian meal at The Piccadily on Great Windmill Street Em's treated me to a surprise in the form of French & Saunders, I was gutted when I missed them in Birmingham so she got tickets for the one in London. It was awesome, definitely helped that I was a massive F&S fan before hand (Emma was not so some of the sketches just seemed a bit odd to her).
Sunday was a lazy one (well, an attempted lazy one) but the quiet Sunday sounds of Shoreditch woke us up quite early but we just bimbled a bit then headed over to Acton to see Em's Uni chums for a top picnic style lunch. Several hours later we headed back into the centre to meet Vanessa for a few drinks off Oxford Street before she headed off to see a band called Goldfrapp who I have never heard of :) Me and Em's had a nice night in and caught up on Saturday's Merlin and Strictly.
Monday morning, after a sumptuous Craig cooked brekkie of poached eggs, crispy bacon and hollandaise sauce on muffins we headed off to The law Society for Em's qualifying ceremony. The weather was even more appalling than Saturday but we got there and after being joined by Parental Unit Beta a top time was had.
Over the weekend we got to sample three awesome pubs too, all Samuel Smiths' pubs. I had not heard of them before but their Alpine lager (previously called man in a box apparently) is nice, crisp and clear and really good value. Especially given we were in the city centre. I can't remember the name of the pub from Saturday night (on Great Windmill Street) but the ones we tried on Monday were The Cittie of York on Holborn and The Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street. I think I preferred the Cittie of York with it's cubby(sp?) holes but the individual rooms in the Cheshire Cheese were also really cool. We'll definitely be checking out more of these pubs next time we're there.
Yesterday saw me having to head up to Liverpool for a customer visit, it went quite well in the grand scheme of things but as usual it all depends on what figures our systems spit out and at the moment they’re a bit shaky to say the least.
This week is mainly a recovering one, early nights and precious else. Tonight I’ll be playing some more Dead Space as I’m still not even half way through as I’ve not had any time to play it but also I’m going to eBay a few old PC games that I’m never going to play again to add to the “power-tools-required-for-kitchen-project-next-year-fund” :)
I was also thinking about giving Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach a go, does anyone play it ? I know many of you play WoW or WAR, I’m not actually playing for the Online play I just fancy a game set in the Eberron world as I’m a bit of a fan and I’ve started reading the books again recently.
The weekend brings many things, after DIY on Saturday where I begin my remaining bathroom tasks there are plans for drinkies on Saturday where I hope to catch up with some folks and then a nice lazy day on Sunday with pub lunch and movie in the afternoon. Prolly seeing Burn Before reading at 4pm if anyone wants to come along.
Anyways, now I have to do a bit of work before finishing up, am looking forward to the journey home as I’m watching Sarah Conner Chronicles on the PSP for my hour and a half journey, I’m near the end of season one episode 2 and it’s all quite exciting !
Laters,
C.
