[Well, guess who's just down the hall, Matt?]

Hey hot stuff!

[And now looks mortified?

That's right, it's Jael!]

[madteos]

[Matt's shadow jumps and waves to Jael.]

Look, Matty! It's Jael. You remember Jael, right?

[Insert embarrassing kissing noise here. Matt must resist the urge to facepalm. He turns to look at Jael, despite the blush in his cheeks.]

Hey. So you've got the same problem I've got.

[mutedmother]

[Jael's blush deepens and she stomps on her shadow as it makes kissy noises back at Matt's shadow. It just cackles wildly.]

Unfortunately. I see yours has as little tact as mine.

[madteos]

Yeah.

[His hand is wrapped up from dealing with his shadow earlier. He sighs softly.]

Sorry about that.

[mutedmother]

It's fine.

[Jael finally notices his wrapped hand.]

What happened?

[If he lets her, she's going to grab his hand and examine it.]

[madteos]

[He doesn't have a lot of time to react, really. So she has his hand and he's about to answer her but then...]

He tried to punch me. [The shadow doubles over with laughter.] Because I told his robobuddy he killed a bunch of people. Silly Matt. You can't punch a shadow.

[Matt clenches his eyes shut. Damn this thing.]

[mutedmother]

[Jael's hands tighten before she realizes that that probably hurts and loosens her grip again.

She stares at his hand with wide eyes. She wants to ask, but she doesn't want to pry. But she needs to know.]

[madteos]

[Matt does wince a bit.]

Jael I didn't...

Oh, don't be so modest! You ran away. You didn't do a thing to help them and now they're all dead. Dead, dead, dead.

[He shakes his head.]

But he told me to...

[mutedmother]

Hey man, don't feel so bad! Jael's killed someone before! So you two are, like, perfect for each other or something!

[Jael winces and keeps her eyes down as she heals his hand.]

[madteos]

Oh he can't help it. He'll whine and moan and cry and I'm the one who gets stuck listening to it.

[Matt averts his gaze. This is just...ruining everything for him, isn't it? Suddenly the boat's not such a great place.]

[mutedmother]

Well lucky for me, I don't have anything to listen to!

[It cackles again. Jael flinches, and when she finishes healing his hand she gives it one last squeeze before letting go and reaching for her comm again.]

If you want, we can just forget this ever happened.

[madteos]

[Matt flexes his hand. Wow, that's amazing. But that's forgotten when he sees her next message.]

I'm sorry, Jael. I didn't want you to find out like this.

[mutedmother]

[She still hasn't really looked up to meet his eyes.]

I know. We both have secrets we don't want anyone to know, and this wasn't the best way to find out about them.

There is so much more I could tell you.

[Jael stomps her foot on her shadow, scowling fiercely.]

[madteos]

Will you let me explain? Please?

[When his shadow's gotten quiet again. He doesn't want her walking away from this hating him.]

[mutedmother]

[Jael finally looks up, studying Matt's face for a moment before she nods.]

[madteos]

Thank you. But...maybe when we have less of an audience.

Yeah he'll need some time to come up with a decent lie.
