I've been enjoying reading Violent Acres. Check out the "most popular articles" link at the top. I find the author's consistent, contextually-incorrect capitalization of words like "mother" and "father" to be kind of irritating, but otherwise she's a good writer.
The part of this post that talks about arrogance vs. self-deprecation elucidates something I've been feeling, but couldn't quite put my finger on. I don't take compliments very well. When a woman says something like, "I love your mind," I hear instead, "I'm not your intellectual equal," and I like her a little bit less.
