I see two LJ friends have posted after being away, so I am loading my friends page, so I can read those posts. While that happens, I will mention a thought / hypothesis

Yes, I have! It was important to me, and I've used, "grok," many times.
But I had to check Wiki to refresh my memory. I can sense how that book might relate here, but cannot pinpoint it...? Was generosity a big part of sex for Smith? Or something??
?
[Just for the record, and not to brag, but I read that book so long ago, I'm pretty sure my thoughts in this post are, 'original' - (although, I hope you might read my thoughts on originality and inspiration some time. I've been thinking of doing a brief new post on all that soon)].
Absolutely! You have great instincts. Thanks for the astute comment.
Seeing this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_All_Worlds reminded me of a religion in one or two Vonnegut books, where members try to connect each other souls, by lying with the souls of their feet up against each other. Bokonism. Ever grok that?
Yes, it is. I like that you appreciate Vonnegut. Have you read Heller or Irving?
Cat's Cradle is very good, and it has many aspects to it, like Bokonism, and the language. I can't remember if that was my fav or Sirens of Titan. I liked Mother Night, even though it was more like a conventional novel.
Reading Vonnegut was so much fun. If I had "the complete Vonnegut" I would commit myself to reading all the books in sequence. That's saying a lot because I stopped reading fiction when I got CFS.
