Amazing episode (amazing show). Loved the canon references ("I'd be lost without my blogger"). I also really liked Moriarty. He seems to fit this version of Sherlock... and I love Cumberbatch Sherlock.
Then there is the Sherlock and John love. The final scene. The cliffhanger. Perfection. Moffat confirmed that there would be a second series today. Happy news.
I hope it's LONGER THAN THREE EPISODES. Grumble grumble.
I love that one thing they've updated for this setting is that they call each other by their first names. In the books, you'll recall, they were always Holmes and Watson to each other. In fact, pretty much nobody called him "Sherlock."
He said that they were meeting BBC bosses to decide when the episodes would be made and how many would be in the second series, but that the episodes would remain 90 minutes.
I think Moffat made that exact point about first names in the interview. I love how they've managed to modernise it. You can tell Moffat and Gatiss are complete Sherlock Holmes fans.
You can't tell me they're not absolutely salivating over doing a Reichenbach Falls scenario, with Sherlock faking his own death and letting John think he's died in a confronation with Moriarty. Staying away for months only to reappear. Oh, the reunion angst. Oh, the drama. Oh, god let this happen.
I just have to say I agree with everything you said, and I want to add that I love Mycroft in this series, and John's interaction with him.
I greatly enjoyed Moriarty as a mirror for Sherlock. They really did an amazing job pointing out the very fine line dividing the two. Not going to lie though, the way Moriarty's accent and the pitch of his voice were all over the place was jarring, and I can't decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
His speech pattern definitely was jarring, and I think it was meant to be. You weren't supposed to know what you were dealing with. The smooth all-knowing nemesis is a comfortable trope.
