Concert tiemz!

I need a better "music and concerts" icon. Anybody have a cool one? Comment with it if you do and can share it.

Concert tonight. Dayna and I are going to see The National, one of my favorite bands, and based on my research I'm going to come up against one of the unfortunate consequences of never listening to the radio. Generally I discover bands when someone recommends them, or they turn up on my Pandora playlist, yadda yadda. This means that I have no idea which songs from any given band are the ones that get radio play, the songs that are the "popular" ones. I listen to the albums and I like whichever songs I like, which may or may not be the popular ones. So when I go see a band in concert, my favorite songs are just as likely as not to get played.

My all-time favorite National song is "Gospel," off their second album. My favorite song off their new album is "Sorrow." I snooped around a bit and found several setlists from concerts in this current tour, and looks like neither of those songs are on it. Bummer. Not that I don't like the other songs. It's going to be an interesting concert. They're playing at an outdoor venue in downtown Columbus, which means no seating. We'll likely be on the lawn. Now, The National is a pretty mellow band. Will we be standing up the whole time? It's not really a "stand up and go nuts" kind of band. We saw Death Cab at this same venue and were standing up the whole time. Of course the problem is if anybody's standing up, you've got to stand up unless you want to stare at everyone's butts the whole time and never see the band.

Had a good hike yesterday. It was a Babes outing but there ended up only being two of us. The other Babe, Renee, is a pretty experienced hiker and at about my same fitness level so we decided we were going to book it and go for maximum speed and calorie burn. When I walked this same trail with Eric two weeks ago it took 1 hour 37 minutes. Me and Renee did it in 1 hour 14 minutes, for 3.8 miles, which is an average speed of 3.1 mph, which is pretty good over uneven trail terrain with hills and stuff.

Then it was home to stalk torrents for last night's Sherlock. They were up by around 6:00 but the downloading of course took forever. It wasn't done by the time I went to bed, so that gives me something to look forward to this evening, depending on how late I'm out at the concert.
