Surgery report, 8 days post-op

Hello everyone! Everything's going fine. I'm learning how to eat and what to eat and that anything containing protein powder is nasty, but I'm getting clever enough with my food choices to get my protein in with regular food.

Had a bit of a weird thing happen last night. I have five incisions. One of them is big and sore and is the only one that gives me any discomfort. Three are tiny and barely there. The fifth is just above my belly button. It's not large but it's never closed as well as the others...that's a tough part of the body, lots of movement.

Last night it started...dripping. Not oozing, dripping a clear pinkish fluid. It looked just like the fluid that came out of my drain when I was in the hospital. The wound itself was not hot, red or swollen, and I felt totally fine. I called the surgical resident and he didn't seem too concerned, said I could come in now or tomorrow to have it looked at, but absent any other signs of bad things like infections it was probably just that I'd moved a certain way and the stitches had opened slightly and some drainage was escaping. It stopped by this morning and the incision is scabbing over, so I feel better. It's just a little disconcerting, not to mention inconvenient, to have water dripping out a hole in your belly, you know?

Mom and I are both stitching on our various projects and watching West Wing. Last night she baked me an egg custard which tasted great and has tons of protein. I also had some tuna salad which I pureed in the food processor.

It's funny...I still have some moderate pain from my one incision but the quality of the pain has changed. Before it was sharper, more stabby, and then it was kinda burny, now it's more of a deep ache, like I pulled a muscle. Huh.

All in all...I'm having a remarkably smooth time of things. Sometimes I'll be drinking my lemonade or eating something and it's like, are we sure they did the surgery?

I promise. Sometime soon I will stop talking about my surgery and the aftereffects. It's just that right now, that's kind of all that's occupying my thoughts.
