Sunday cookouts

Well, there's only one thing to do when you have new patio furniture...host a cookout! Yay!

So my usual suspects are coming over to partake (Brian the Art Guy, Indie Dayna and Jessimi-with-no-blog-name and perhaps her sister). I've got a whole big package of brats I'm going to grill (we won't eat them all but Eric will later) and I made, of course, skewers like I always do, but this time I made pork skewers marinated in a Hawaiian sauce with onions, green peppers and pineapple. I'm also trying out a potato recipe with mayo, cheese and onions grilled in foil packets. We'll see how the timing works out...the potatoes need half an hour but the skewers need 15 mins and the brats only need less than ten mins, so I need to let the grill cool enough for the potatoes to go on but not so much that it won't be hot enough for the skewers. Urgh.

I hope it isn't too hot to eat outside. I don't think it is, especially in the shade under the umbrella. I could move a fan out there, I guess.

I was actually smart today. I got up and cleaned the grill grates and watered the flowers. Then I went to the store and got everything, came home and did all the prep and stuck it all in the fridge, THEN I took a shower and got dressed. So all I have to do, literally, is start the grill, dump the cut fruit in a bowl and then grill stuff. Go me.

If those potatoes turn out good I'll post the recipe. People were raving about them on allrecipes.com.

Random Observation of the Day

I love to watch HGTV. House Hunters is especially fun. But is there some kind of HGTV Law that states that whenever they're looking in on the people just being normal in their new home, or their old home before they move, that they MUST be cutting up some fruit or vegetables on a cutting board? People are constantly cutting stuff up on cutting boards on HGTV. I mean, I get that it looks nice, but surely there are other things that look nice. Dropping cookie dough on sheets? Frosting a cake? Shelling peas? I don't know, I'm just sick of seeing people very neatly cutting things up.
