Cold Cut Nirvana

You all know of my fondness for sandwiches and cold cuts.

Unfortunately, so much deli meat is...nasty. It doesn't taste like meat. It tastes like some kind of mashed-up processed substance that is only meat in the loosest definition of the term. Not to put too fine a point on it, Kroger's deli sucks. Big ones. I'm spoiled by our local grocery chain's deli, which has really good potato salad and other foods of many varieties. I have to readjust my thinking when I visit my 'rents in a small town that only has Krogers (ick.) They say "We'll just pick up some fried chicken" or whatever and I say "Great!" automatically and then want to kick myself.

The turkey sandwich I had last night tasted just like Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwiches

No, it's worth it. I like Boar's Head because it has fewer preservatives, but that's what usually kills me about processed meats. I can't eat Schlotsky's sandwiches because they give me a headache. It's strange.

I'm with you. If I'm going to have a sandwich, by gods, I want a good sandwich, with good bread and good meat. If that means spending a bit more cash at the grocery store, well, then, so be it.
