You all know of my fondness for
sandwiches and
cold cuts. Unfortunately, so much deli meat is...nasty. It doesn't taste like meat. It tastes like some kind of mashed-up processed substance that is only meat in the loosest definition of the term. As Velveeta is to cheese, most deli meat is to meat. My last cold-cuts purchase went only half-eaten because it was just too nasty.
Then, last night at Whole Foods with
rachet, I found Cold Cut Nirvana. At Whole Foods they have the usual vacuum-sealed deli meats, but they also make their own. As in, they roast some beef and some turkey breasts and slice them up real thin for you. And it tastes like meat. The turkey sandwich I had last night tasted just like Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwiches (a grand old Lori's Dad Tradition) except the turkey was sliced way thinner than I could have done.
It's real meat, not processed meat. It was cooked and sliced, that's it. My sandwiches doth rejoice.
Is it weird that I'm so happy about this? I mean yeah, it's pricier. The Kroger deli meats are like $7-8 a pound. The Whole Foods deli meat was $11 a pound. But dude, I'll pay it. It's worth it. Sometimes you gotta pony up the dough for the better quality.
