I really appreciate the understated simplicity of the new GoF poster. No fire-breathing horntails and dark marks and merpeople and fire. No overly dramatic cutlines. WB got it right when they boiled it all down to the relationship dynamics of the three protagonists.
I think Dan is looking less and less cherubic and far more angular now. That chiseled seeker's physique, I suppose. Emma looks *Eyes goggle out of head* gorgeous. If I had a 14 year old daughter like her (and I will one day) I'd lock her up in the highest tower and kick the ass of the likes of me for having bad thoughts. Rupert, God love him, looks high, as usual, but also a little sullen, angry, jealous?
I like the poster. Now bring on some dragons and dark marks.
Is no-one else irritated by Hermione's Supergirl status? The film is supposed to be about Harry - what's she doing slap-bang in the middle looking all moody and capable, and why have they made the boys weedy and scared?
I didn't think either of the boys looked scared. Dan looks determined to me, and Rupert looks...kind of moody, yeah.
Also, since she's the only girl, it makes graphic-design sense to put her in the middle. I really doubt they were trying to communicate anything sinister or plot-related. Since all three photos were the same size, the odd one out ought to go central. I'm sure in the real posters yet to come, Harry will be pictured largest as usual (his name's in the title, after all).
Well, the filmmakers do have a vested interest in making the films appealing to girls, although they shouldn't be concerned given how popular the books are with both sexes.
But in StudioSpeak, male hero means boy-friendly, therefore they probably want to punch up the female presence to make it more girl-friendly.
But you know what? It doesn't matter. No matter what they do, it doesn't make a single bit of difference.
The books will always be the same. Stephen King taught me that lesson. No film can ruin a book. The book will still be sitting there on the shelf, the same book you read and loved, even if the film is the most godawful piece of trash in the universe. Good old Steve has had more than his fair share of real-life examples of this difficult life lesson!
Didja notice the credits? Rupert is billed above Emma. I think that's the first time that's happened. Maybe we'll be seeing less of GrrlPower!Hermione, and ComicRelief!Ron.
Order of billing has virtually nothing to do with how much screen time or how important a character is. It's all about what your agent was willing to fight for. :-) Dan will always be billed first, but the order of Rupert and Emma is, I think, probably a 50/50 proposition.
The fact that ANY of the trio are billed above the adult actors is a bit of a departure. Even if they're the star, a child actor is rarely billed above an adult actor, especially of the caliber of some of our HP costars.
In agreement with alexia75 and ncp about irritating film!Hermione. Wouldn't that be nice if we did see the characters back in their original incarnations? Poor Ron, all he gets to do these days is make funny faces and have funny dreams about spiders (although that was classic).
Personally, I think the poster's not much more than a "let's give clamoring fans something to look at." We know what the actors look like, thanks...even if they are hot =)

But then I am an irrational Ran fangirl, so I resent them nicking all of his best lines and giving them to her. :D
