Midnight excursions and retailer insecurity

Rachel and I have hatched A Crazy Plan for the big premiere of Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Our intent was to do what we've done for the last four-odd movies. Go to the midnight premiere at our favorite theater. Rachel emailed me the other day and said, "Let's go to the 3:00 a.m. show at the Lennox!" I'm presuming that the midnight show was sold out.

So our current plan is to go home on Thursday, sleep, get up and meet at the theater for the 3:00 a.m. show, have breakfast afterwards and then just go in to work. Wheeee! I missed the premiere of Half Blood Prince because it came out the day of my surgery, so this'll be fun.

Then today I get an email from my aunt, with whom I'm spending Thanksgiving, also addressed to her two daughters, proposing that we go Black Friday outlet shopping at midnight on Thanksgiving.

What IS it with people-who-are-not-me proposing excursions in the wee hours of the morning? I used to be Madame Night Owl, but not so much anymore. I'm totally up for it, make no mistake, it's just funny.

Now I have a question for the masses.

I have noticed in the last year or so a dramatic upswing in the number of follow-up customer service calls I get. As in, I buy something or partake of some service, and a few days later I get a call from Retailer or Provider X wanting to know how things went with all that. Sometimes multiple calls. Hey, you had an oil change with us, how's that working out for you? You bought a washer and dryer, tell us all about that experience. You had your carpet cleaned, wanna make any comments about that? You rented a car from us, please for the love of God, reassure us in our insecurity that you will use our service again pretty please?

As a former denizen of the World of Retail, I totally get the need for customer feedback and the desire to ensure a positive buying experience for one's consumers. But as one of those consumers, I find this REALLY DAMN ANNOYING. Leave me the hell alone. If there's a problem, I'll let you know.

Is this just me? Have others of youse noticed an increase in this follow-up call practice? It's to the point when every time the phone rings and I don't recognize the number, it's most likely to be somebody wanting to know how they did with something.
