I am not wearing earrings today.
This is a rare occurrence. Usually even if I'm wearing trail clothes, I'm wearing earrings. Sadly this morning was super rushed. I had made a 7:30 appointment for Grownup Car's regular maintenance but I overslept a tad, so it was a "leap out of bed and throw on something" morning. No time for earrings. But Grownup Car got its oil changed and tires checked and all that jazz. I think tonight I'm going to give the interior a once-over with some Charlie's Soap, clean off the inevitable coffee splashes near the cup holder and the shoe dirt on the insides of the doors. Give it a vacuuming.
Hey, did you hear some people got engaged, or something? I mean, it was kind of anticlimactic. Wills and Kate have been dating for what, nine years? I kind of already thought they were engaged. Or might as well have been. I suppose the Official Announcement is a big deal when you're marrying the future king of England. Man. If I were her, that would scare the crap out of me. She must love him.
Which is why this royal marriage probably stands a way better chance of success than previous ones. I mean, nine years. She can have no illusions about the kind of life she's marrying into, she's been watching him live it and semi-participating in it for a long time. She's had plenty of time to think about what she's getting into and bail if it was too much. But I feel bad for her for one reason: the poor woman's going to be answering questions about bloody Diana FOREVER. It's bad enough she'll inherit Diana's former HRH title once Charles is King (if he ever is) and Wills becomes Prince of Wales (does Wills have a title like that yet, or is he just Prince William of nothing in particular?). But dang. I'd hate to live in that shadow. Wills didn't help by giving her Diana's engagement ring. I think his reasons for doing so are legit and kind of sweet, but it just makes the whole comparison thing even worse.
These two seem to be playing it smart, though. They've planned this carefully. They seem like a team, like they strategized about when to announce and when to have the ceremony and what would be the best plan of attack. If they're in this together then they'll both have an easier time of it, as opposed to Diana, who was pretty much plucked out of obscurity and thrown to the wolves.
I had something else I was going to write about, but now I can't remember.
