Shasta, police cat

Our black cat Shasta (who some of you have met) loves (loves, loves!!!) rubber bands. I mean, where some critters like to play with paper balls, mice or birds, Shasta considers the lowly rubber band to be the pinnacle of kitty desire.

When I bring in the newspapers in the morning she is all over me in case they used rubber bands to keep them rolled up (usually). We keep extra rubber bands inside an old screw-top spaghetti sauce jar, and have to keep the lid TIGHT because she has knocked it over multiple times trying to get at the goodies.

Today I was doing something that required I use 3 of them. I left them on our kitchen cafe table (it is high). Later I discovered her with one, took it off her, and looked for the others on the table. Nada.

She can sniff out a rubber band from a dozen feet. She goes crazy if she can smell one in my pocket. I told labrat2 that our cat could work for the police if they need some "sniffer animal" for erasers or condoms. I guess.
