HSBC make me LOL sometimes
They phone up and say "You owe us £500, can you make this payment with a non-HSBC debit or credit card?"
To which I say "No. I wish I could, but I can't."
To which they say "Oh. OK. Can you pay it next month?"
And I say "I wish I was getting paid that much!!"
Then we have a discussion about how little money I will have each month after paying money to everyone else. They might now be able to look at reducing my monthly payments and tacking the arrears onto the capital, which suits me fine.
I have found that most companies seem more than accommodating if you're upfront with them about being unable to afford payments, and will happily wait til you're in a better position.
Except Citi Cards, who are just bloody useless. These people phone up and ask if I can pay them the money I owe, and I say "No, I have no money." And they say "When will you have money?" and I say "When I get a job." And then they hang up. Now I've had a statement saying they want abut £480 off me in the very near future. So I'm going to set it to one side and make payments to them of as much as I can afford as and when I can afford it. And I'll be getting details from them for me to initiate the payment, because I'm not having them take more money than I'm letting them have.
