Back to reality.

Madison jiggled her key until her frontdoor swung open. School had left her disheveled, and now she was coming home to an empty house. Well, penthouse.

Bailey scurried around the corner to greet Maddie.

"Hi baby!" she said, smiling, as she picked up the pooch. "At least you're happy I'm home." She dropped her
on the ground as she headed for the kitchen.

With her polo untucked, her pleated skirt hanging low on her hips, and her hair pulled up in a haphazard bun, Maddie looked like some badass schoolgirl from a music video. In reality, she was just exhausted. She opened the fridge with one hand and yanked out some Cool Whip. Too lazy to chop up fruit, Maddie simply grabbed a spoon and started eating from the jar. She sighed, going over the

Madison's parents had been waiting up for her to return from the Hamptons. Still a little tipsy, she'd tried to get them to calm down. But it was useless.

"Don't you EVER think you'll pull another stunt like this!"

"You're SEVENTEEN...renting out a beachhouse...have any idea how much that COSTS?!"

"YOU ARE GROUNDED...school then home...no light of day...no coffee runs...HOME..."

After an hour of yelling, she'd finally managed to make her parents relax. Sure, a little fake-crying was required, but Maddie eventually got out of being grounded. In fact, her mom took her shopping for new clothes the next day.

There was, however, one tiny problem. Madison had been feeling like shit since the night Scott got back, but decided it must have been a bug. The last couple mornings in the Hamptons, she'd been plagued with nausea until lunchtime. She'd figured that it was the alcohol. When the puking continued once Maddie was home, she had a feeling she wasn't suffering from the world's worst hangover. So she scheduled a doctor's appointment for early the next morning.

It's just a bug. I'm fine. Everything's normal, Madison kept repeating in her head, even though she had a feeling she knew better.

When she was satisfied with her whipped cream, Madison put Bailey back on the floor and went to change clothes. Once she was in sweats and a tank top, she pulled her laptop out from her still-unpacked suitcase and went onto the internet.

School's officially started. Scary how time flies, huh? Westport could be worse, a lot worse, so I won't complain. I have a pretty good homeroom, to tell you the truth. Mostly guys (even Scott!) which is fun.

The Hamptons, from what I remember, were fabulous. The beachhouse was gorgeous, and spending time with friends was just what I needed. My parents went a little ballistic when I got back, though, but everything's cooled down now. My mom even took me shopping, and I picked up

White + Warren sweater

Lacoste rugby top

Lilly Pulitzer sweater

Elie Tahari dress

Laundry dress

Christian Louboutin shoes

Lacoste running shoes

L.A.M.B. shirt

Trina Turk skirt

I'm still a little hungry, so I'll go make myself some cereal. Plus, I'd better get started on my Cal homework. Talk to you later!

xx Madison
