Just (re-)reading (for the 20th time?) one of my For Better or For Worse comic books by Lynn Johnston and feeling very thankful that I stumbled upon this comic strip about ten years ago when I was doing an internship in the US. I read about 20 or 30 different comic strips on a regular basis, but Lynn Johnston is one of the few artists who not only makes me laugh and smile but also makes me cry - tears of joy and tears of pain.
The thing I probably like the most about For Better or For Worse is that the characters age and evolve. The strip's been published for more than 25 years now and during this time the kids in the strip have grown up and have children of their own now, their parents have aged, friends have come and gone... not like other comic strips where the setup is fix and nothing ever changes. This way, Lynn Johnston has been able to gradually expand the world of her comic strip by bringing in new problems and situations for her characters - all the little everyday problems we all have: finding the people you love, getting and keeping a job, staying sane in a world that sometimes just seems too mad to live in. And she tells all her stories with a thoroughly positive attitude towards life.

If you want to give the strip a try here's the link to the For Better or For Worse Website. It contains not only a strip archive of the last 4 years but also a really nice Who is Who of all the characters (including about 60 secondary characters), monthly letters from the main characters and some interesting background information.
