Starting on Conterpoint songbook

There's still a little time to send in songs for the Conterpoint program book, if anyone wants to, but I've started putting it together. When you're planning for a con while getting ready to move, you need all the lead time you can get ( Read more... )

Ouchie. I hope Open Office has good PDF support and can handle multiple streams of text decently. Most word processors are awful at both of those things.

Its PDF output is good enough for my uses, and as long as I keep the format simple, it's OK.

I almost included "Sheeple" to go with Ben's song "XKCD," because the cartoon is suspiciously reminiscent of a certain Tom Smith song. The licensing terms prohibit selling of Munroe's material without permission, though, so I'll leave it out rather than cause complications.

I wasn't thinking so much about PDF output as including PDF files in the file.

Anyway, checking the license of XKCD it's not selling that's prohibited but rather commercial use. If you sell the physical songbooks at cost at the con (or with a small markup going to the con or NEFilk), I'd say you won't run afoul of the non-commercial part, especially since Conterpoint in itself is a non-commercial entity. (On the other hand, running the XKCD comics in a marketing campaign would probably run afoul of the non-commercial clause, since the intent is monetary gain.) But it's you book and your decision.

The XKCD page says, "This means you're free to copy and share these comics (but not to sell them)." It really isn't my book but the concom's, so I'm interpreting Munroe's wishes conservatively.

I re-format everything to produce a consistent appearance, so there won't be a need to include any existing PDFs.
