There is raucous coughing coming from the kitchen- Sally has managed to let the frog breathe just a bit too long.
"SALLY. WHAT ARE YOU DOING DOWN THERE?!?!"
"Sorry! I left the witch's hazel in the fire too long!" She pulls jar after jar out of the cupboard, checking each carefully. "Now where did I put the worm's wort? Aha!" She smiles.
"Coming!" She slips a few teaspoons in and carries the tray up to the lab.
"Here you go. Fresh bog juice and bat meat stew." She sets the tray down on a table and stands back.
"Thank you Sally." Doctor Finklestein takes a small spoonful, eyeing Sally with suspicion. Sally merely stands where she is and smiles.
"This is quite good." Beat. "So how long until I pass out this time?" He rounds on her, eye arched.
Sally looks shocked. "But I wouldn't do that to you! Not tonight! It's your birthday, isn't it?"
"You know very well it isn't, and you know very well that I can taste the over-powering bitter taste of frog's breath!" He flings the hand with the spoon in her direction, splattering her with stew.
"You like frog's breath!"
"No arguing! I know your plan- you want to leave me." Growing very still and very gentle: "Sally, you know that you aren't ready for the outside world yet- there is so much left for me to teach you. And I am an old man, with not many years left."
"Oh don't say that! You're healthy and strong, you'll live for a million years! And it's not like I'm going anywhere strange and unfamiliar- I'm just exploring Halloween Town! Our town! The town you and I live in! I'd like to meet other people, see things beyond the pumpkin patch."
"Didn't I introduce you to Jack Skellington?" Finklestein looks almost hurt.
"Well yes- yes you did. But I'd like to meet the others- I'd like to make friends!"

Sally hums softly, pulling up a floor board to reveal a nest of soft autumn leaves. Her left leg feels weak- she'll need to refill it. A small tear and her leg comes apart. Now, if she uses about a quarter of a pound of leaves-
There, that should do it, hopefully. One quick sew, a test-
Good as new.
The worst is just around the bend
