A musical afternoon, a Red Bus city tour around Cape Town and a filling dinner at Trinity with comedy acts for entertainment...
These are the instaxes I took on Day 1 of the trip! They look quite awesome, but the challenge was to avoid that glaring sun which seemed to follow me wherever I go in Cape Town, I could barely take any instaxes (but I did) despite knowing the risk of it being overexposed. I just couldn't imagine myself returning to Singapore without any instaxes from the last few days of this wonderful trip in Cape Town!
Where were we off to that made me so excited the night before?! It's Guguletu!
Organised by
Coffee Beans Routes, whom create contemporary, urban, African experiences that provide travellers deep insights into the places they choose to visit.
Gugulethu is a township 15 kilometres away from the city of Cape Town. Maybe a little history with the help of Wikipedia, Guguletu was established in 1960s and it was the only black residential area which was also why we were introduced to Guguletu as the black township. Black South Africans were not permitted to live in the city of Cape Town, so suburbs like Guguletu and many others were where they were removed to unfortunately.
We were then welcomed by a group of musicians upon entering the house. We were then invited to take a seat and appreciate the music they kindly performed for us. More of the Marimba genre, a group of very passionate musicians who took up this as a community project - sharing their passion for music with kids and fellow neighbours.
Here's to share with you the traditional African music, a video recording I did while they were performing. I couldn't help it but bring it back to share with my friends and family members of what I experienced in Cape Town.
And here's us happy that we had them to brighten our spirits early in the morning with music!
I was happy to take a few snapshots with our dear South Africans too! I've got no idea why but he asked me to say "Your mother" when taking that photo! Oh and also a more decent one would be asking us to say "South Africa"~
We also visited Hilton Schilder's residence. He inherited his musical talent from his family, worked on his "goema rock" musical project and also successfully shared his jazz music with many others.
Before leaving the musical afternoon, of course to take a photo with Hilton Schilder!
Look at the photo below, reflection from the bus' window and it made the photo looks like it's been multi-exposed!
Lunch along the nearby streets of the hotel, mainly at St Georges' Mall. We roamed around quite a bit on our own to scout for souvenirs as well. I wanted to look for a giraffe of height at least till my waist for my mum as she has requested, but unfortunately they were either too expensive and exceeded our budget or that the giraffes here seemed to have gone through major malnutrition, too thin for our liking!
I've been waiting for this moment to be here and it is none other than the
Red Bus City Tour!!!
All of us wanted to be on the bus together so that we could take photos altogether too!
The tour begins... Here's also an itinerary/ timetable for you to have a look at:
Timetable of Red City Tour!
On our way up to Table Mountain's cableway as it's one of the stop for the Red Bus
That's Lion's head (side profile of a Lion)
We were then on our way to Camps Bay and Sea Point.
Nearing
Victoria & Alfred Waterfront... More photos of this place when we visit a few days later.. Keep a lookout!
Another bunch of instaxes, though some overexposed but guess it has its beauty in them too.
Everyday in life.. we have dinner so for Day #3, we had dinner at
Trinity. It's
I had a 300g beef fillet which was too good, though a little thick!
While we were dining, Trinity even had comedy acts for us to enjoy to! The comedy acts were sure very open-minded and daring, very Americanised and though it can get quite offensive for certain people some point in time, we all took it lightly because I guess that's how comedy acts lived through these years.
Before we left Trinity, a photo together to remember this great place we had dinner at:
