- Not a whole lot happened today. Went to Target and spent more money on magazines than is probably necessary, but I wasn't able to find a headphone extender, so I need something to occupy my time while I'm on the treadmill, right? Right?
- I ate Pumpkin Mint Chocolate Chip cookies today. Yes, it deserves its own bullet.
- So I thought I was going to do a whole write up on Community, but I found this week's ep to be kind of eh. Pierce's storyline was kind of great, which baffled me only because Pierce is probably my least favorite part of the show (hipsters! That is all)
On a Community inspired related note, I think I figured out how to make my hair like Britta's. It's going to take a lot of patience and more practice...but the bare bones of it are there. And because I promised
troublesrollby how to do it, here we go -
So just to start off, I'm not sure how your hair is, but my hair is the following: a little past shoulder length, not super thin or thick (somewhere in the middle), and I have naturally wavy hair to begin with. But when I air dry it, there's a frizz factor and it doesn't always come out too fabulous. So, here we go;
Step 1: Wash & Blow Dry Hair As Normal
When I was first experimenting, I air dried my hair and tried playing with the curling iron afterward and it doesn't work like that. Blow dry your hair straight, using straightening products if you do that normally (I use an anti-frizz serum normally, but it's not necessary).
Step 2: Curling Iron!
Okay, the key with the curling iron is just to use the barrel. Take a piece of your hair and just wrap it around the whole thing (for a pictoral example,
click here, step 2). In the picture, it shows her pressing the tab to lift up the metal part on the barrel, but I don't even do that - if the barrel is hot enough, you don't have to do that, in my opinion.
Tips!
- For all over curl, you can take hair clips and clip your hair to the side to get the underneath layers (you definitely get more volume that way).
- Or, if you're in a hurry, you can just do the top layer of your hair and it is kind of a softer look.
Step 3: Slow Your Roll!
Once you've finished curling, let your hair cool for a bit. Then you can run your fingers through the wave so that they become wavier and not so much like your hair came fresh off the barrel. To finish, just use some hairspray and you're good to go!
Obviously, the longer your hair, the better it is to work with (I think for fear of not wanting to burn yourself), but with my shoulder length hair it isn't too bad. And the back of your head is pretty easy to do, much to my surprise. Just pull that hair straight up so you can see it in the mirror and you should be good to go.
And also, Britta has perfect waves because Gillian Jacobs gets a hair lady every day who gets to make sure that her hair looks so perfect. Must be nice. But in case you're curious, here's what mine looked like today;
...oh god, safari randomly quit on me and I thought I lost this post. Thank god LJ restore, thank god.
