The Archangel Blade
Too distracted with his battle with Michael, Lucifer doesn't see Sam's approach. The solid weight of the archangel blade feels right to Sam, like this is meant to be. He rushes forward, shoving the blade right through Lucifer's black heart.
Lucifer fixes his gaze on Sam, his lips curling into that smile that still haunts Sam's dreams. Then Dean's wrapping his hand around Sam's, and together they pull the blade out, and stab it back in, right to the hilt.
This time Lucifer doesn't smile; he falls lifelessly to the ground.
“You did it!”
“No,” Dean says, “we did it.”
A/N: Yes, I re-wrote the ending and it's completely self-indulgent, but this is what I would have preferred! When reading this, can we please just imagine that Michael and Lucifer aren't needlessly floating around in the air, and that Sam has more involvement in killing Lucifer. I felt that all season we were leading up to Sam finally getting to do this, only to have it ripped it away at the last minute. I liked the idea of Sam and Dean doing this together, and also I can't actually remember from canon if only an archangel can kill an archangel. As always I'd love to hear your thoughts too; on the episode, on the drabble, on everything (just no spoilers for season 14 please). Take care :)
