"For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings."-hebrews 2:10
i am just jumping in my skin because of the richness of this passage. God is so cool, and all glory belongs to Him.
starting with the centerpiece of His grace, Jesus Christ in whom all the fullness of deity dwells. ive been reading The Pleasures of God by none other than John Piper and ive been studying how God is pleased in His Son. so i was reading about how all of us are gloriously subjected to futility to be made glorified in Christ. Hebrews is a great book to testify about how God is glorified in His Son. so i started reading and i was in awe of this verse. this verse explains how God works and how God-centered He is and how all things revolve around Him and His glory.
im going to take this verse totally apart and hopefully you can see, as God is showing me, how rich His glory is and how beatiful His glory is in light of the gospel.
"For it was fitting for Him"
scripture says over and over that the way God acts is according to His glory and satisfaction.
"Let the glory of the Lord endure forever,
Let the Lord be glad in His works."-psalm 104:31
"Our God is in the heavens;
He does as He pleases."-psalm 115:3
"I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning and from the ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose."-isaiah 46:9,10
now in regards to how He does as He pleases, it was fitting for Him to glorify Himself in Christ:
"But the Lord was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will prolong His days,
and the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand."-isaiah 53:10
ok. pray that God prepare your heart because this may be new to you, but it is completely scriptural: God does not save you because you are special or because He loves man more than anything, but because He loves His glory and it pleases Him to love you. He loves Himself and His Son but it brought Him pleasure to crush Him for His glory. ill continue with this thought alittle later.
"for whom are all things"
God does all that He pleases, and even more He does as He pleases because all things are for Himself. lets look at just a small passage in ephesians 1:5,6
"He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself...,"
so we are saved through Christ and this all goes back to His glory.
"...according tothe kind intention of His will,"
according to His purposes and kind intentions.
"...tothe praise of His glory of His grace..."
so salvation is through Christ to connect us to God for God, and its all according to His will and kind intentions which glorify God, and then its also for the praise that belongs to Him for His grace. its starting to sound repetitive but realize everything biblical rests on Him. its all for Him and all glory belongs to Him.
even Christ was not for you as much as He was for Him:
"Behold My servant, whom I uphold, My chosen, in whom My soul delights."-isaiah 42:1
"and through whom are all things"
all things are through God. alot of people do not like to believe that God is before all things, because God is not evil, things that are evil can not be from God. scripture kills this argument.
"Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass,
Unless the Lord has commanded it?
Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
that both good and bad go forth?"-lamentations 3:37,38
"The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity;
I am the LORD who does all these."-isaiah 45:7
now before you get stirred up and declare that i am a heretic and that God as unjust, realize that God is the supreme being of all that has been created. He is the first and the last, the ultimate God who has ultimate authority over all things. He is the Creator, and no one else on earth has been given the authority that is God. so for Him to create evil brings Him glory, you dont have to like it but you are in submission to He who is the Sovereign God in scripture.
"in bringing many sons to glory"
now this is what i am utterly astounded by, the whole scripture blows me away but i stand forever in awe of His grace.
God freely glorifies Himself in beings that "fall short of His glory"(romans 3:23) "while we were enemies"(romans 5:10) "have become useless"(romans 3:12)...basically we are gross in the sight of God and under Gods law we have no hope, BUT GOD freely became our hope in Christ, in whom the fullness of deity dwells.
it brought Him glory to "love the world" (john 3:16) that is detestable in His perfect and Holy sight.
so that those whom "He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified."-romans 8:30
God is infinately Good. and i love that He included me in glorifying Himself in His mercy.
we could have easily been included in Him glorifying Himself in His wrath.
"What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory."-romans 9:22,23
we are all just vessels of His glory, because everything is about Him.
"to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings"
now this is cool, the reason for Christ, for us to be made glorified through Christ, and all things are so God can perfect Himself. i think that is so cool on its own that im just gonna end on that. meditate on His goodness because that is what you were made to do.
