So, my kitchen fail story. I got this dumbass idea that I would make J a thin layer chocolate cake for Thanksgiving. It's his favorite. I found a recipe that looked promising, and the icing turned out great. The cake... did not. They were like layers of very thin rubber. So, I ran to the store for cake mix, which I should've done to begin with. I wasted 3 more eggs(in addition to 3 other eggs and 2 sticks of butter), but the layers resembled something edible. Except some broke, and nearly all slid. I ended up with a very short cake(I only have 9 inch cake pans, not 8 inch, which you need for this cake) that I had to stick skewers into to keep the layers in place. I tasted it today and didn't care for it. I'll let J try it today, but I think I need an alternate dessert for him(I'm having creamy lemon pie, which turned out fine).
Since the cake took ALL freaking afternoon yesterday, the only other thing I made yesterday was cornbread for the dressing. I made most of the stuff today: the pie, a cherry jello/cranberry/grape/crushed pineapple thingy, boiled the chicken(chicken and dumplings and some to put in the dressing), and I'm baking the ham today. Tomorrow, I'll bake the dressing and make dumplings and potato salad. We're having our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow night, so we can take it easy Thursday, maybe sleep late and have leftovers.
This week is only a few days old and I'm already done with it... evil customers at work, and for two days running, I've gotten to go and fix topstock on the baking aisle. I did it yesterday and it was messed up again today. Instead of having me fix it every day, why not teach the morons to do it right? Yeah, I said it. It wasn't any of my night crew people who did it. They're awesome and always do a good job.
