To All A Good Night

Whew!

1:43 am, that officially means Christmas is over, and I can breathe again. I hope everyone else's Christmas was lovely, full of friends, family and food.

It's not that I hate Christmas. I am a buh humbug, but only because I think I never had it in me to share the Christmas spirit. The music drives me crazy, this much is true. I hate walking into a store for a freaking box of cereal in the middle of October and having to hear "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" play over the loud speakers. It makes me want to hang myself from the cieling ornaments.

I also hate all the pressure, monetary and otherwise. The monetary pressure you probably all understand along with me. I'm a college student who works part time, I barely make enough for the gas in my car to get me to my job. When I looked at the remaining balance in my bank account after I finished my Christmas shopping, I nearly called the cops to report credit card theft. But there's the other kind of pressure too, the kind to be happy and cheerful and filled with glee and good tidings and all that good stuff. And when everyone tries so hard to be so happy, you end up thinking so much about being happy that you forget how.

Technically even, I'm a Jew. I'm not a practicing Jew, but since my mother is a technical, non-practicing Jew, that automatically makes me and my sister Jews as well. It's rumored we even have citizenship in Israel since we are technical, non-practicing Jews, though I've never been able to test that theory out. So really, today we should have ordered Chinese food and gone to the movies. (Though have you ever noticed that every year on Christmas, the movie theater is always super packed? I think that's because people get so sick of each other, and the concept of having to spend the entire day talking to each other is so terrifiying they either have to choose between seeing a movie or murdering each other with a turkey baster.)

In all, though, my holiday was good. You can't go wrong sitting around a giant tree opening presents and eating chocolate croissants really, can you?

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. :)

- Be well :)
