i love everyone in this bar: ode to my flist
Hi guys! Read this, okay?
I never post. these are things I know. and I'm all, oh I'll start posting regularly now and get to know everyone and be friends and make more friends and have happiness and sunshine. This doesn't happen because of our old friend RL interfering like a crying infant that needs all of my attention. I really don't know where I'm going with this- OH RIGHT. LOVE LETTER.
I was reading through the Fuck Yeah Buffy Secrets tumblr earlier, and generally it's a pretty good outlet for people with some less popular opinions about certain aspects about everyone's favorite show. BUT MY GOD the shipping. I know complaining about shipper wars is old hat, which is why this is NOT a rant about shippers. It is quite the opposite, in fact. This is just me conveying my appreciation to all the wonderful, mature, intelligent, compassionate, funny ladies (and some dudes) that I've managed to surround myself in this corner of the fandom. Luckily for me, the only time that stuff even comes on my radar is when I travel outside of the niche I've found myself in, and it's usually not so pleasant. The fans I know have discussions, gush over mutual love for characters, post interesting meta, get silly with gifs, poll for opinions and respect those opinions, and overall just LOVE OUR SHOW. I love you guys, really I do. I love making icons, and reading fic, and looking at fanart, and reading meta, and taking polls. The fans I know welcome lurkers, encourage newcomers, are generous with both compliments and constructive criticism, and overall are just great people to be in contact with on the internet.
I know I don't have hundreds of friends, but if you see this, add why you love our corner of fandom, because it's pretty great! Tell your friends! I want discussion people, we all deserve some happiness!
