Went to see Prince Caspian tonight, since it opened here YESTERDAY (pity meeeee). I liked it! Even though it skipped my two favorite parts of the book,
namely the sharing of sandwiches, and when Aslan and Lucy (and Susan in the book, but I don't care about that part because movie-Susan got to kick ass which was awesome) are off waking the trees or whatever and come upon a bunch of Telmarines that decide to follow them, especially the school teacher who sees Aslan through a window and is all I wish I could join you, I do, but I mustn't and then he - or no wait, it was Bacchus - turns her pupils into pigs.
The pig part isn't important. The important part is that that part is my favorite scene in pretty much the whole series of books, although PC itself is not even in my top three.
Also, Aslan's mane is too narrow. I believe I had Firm Opinions on this after the first movie, and people laughed at me, and then I mentioned it while we were having dinner after the movie tonight and people laughed at me again. The mane is all wrong. Have you ever SEEN a lion? God.
Other than that though, I loved it, and it was beautiful, and SUSAN SUSAN SUSAN and PETER and Edmund but mostly just Suuuuuusan. Yes. Lovely.
Of course, now I want to read the book, which in fact I think I will, and maybe find some Telmarine-POV fic (which I suspect I won't), and watch the BBC miniseries which I bought in a moment of weakness after the last movie and then got about ten minutes into before deciding some childhood memories should remain sacred and unmarred by harsh rewatches. PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA.
Dinner was at a lovely Finnish food restaurant at which we were the only Finns (including waiters). Everyone else was American and over 60 (excluding waiters). I had venison. It was yummy.
Tomorrow night: laundry. EXCITING TIMES.
