the countdown begins
18 days till take off. I've already packed one suitcase..
yesterday we discovered my left ear is bloody. it's a bit scary.. I have a nurse's appointment tomorrow to check out what's going on. my mom had cleaned it up, but right now it's plugged with blood and it feels kind of sore. my mom says that in Taiwan it's called swimmer's middle ear, and pay back for the argument I got into with her over taking the dog to the pound after it attacked a chihuahua. Said creature's owner had convinced my mom that our dog was unnaturally violent and vicious.
today we took the dog to the pound. I tried to give them her red ball, which she loves to play with, so she could chew on it and play catch with herself (she's ingenious and when we played catch it went both ways), but the guy said it would just clutter up the drain and not to bother.. I think I looked rather guilty and miserable so my mother said, "Let's go look at where they keep the dogs. You'll see, it's quite clean and there's lots of other dogs she could play with." We went in, and saw rows upon rows of little fenced in areas of dogs barking or just plaintively sitting next to the gate, eyeing us. It pains me to think that the dog is going to be sitting in a little cage until someone picks her up. I don't think she ever realized what we were doing. All the other times we took her on a car trip it was to somewhere fun. I hope a nice family gets her, preferably one with three hyper active little boys who will play with her all the time..
I felt fairly miserable for most of the day, then went swimming. my day considerably cheered up after I realized I can do breast stroke with my head above water now. I'm going to go swimming with my former french prof at Three Rivers this weekend, and I had learned/he had taught me breast stroke last week so I could swim outside of a pool. I'm honestly a little nervous to hang out with a prof outside of class; what on earth does one talk about with them? French? Swimming? The weather?
