I am working on my term paper right now.
The topic is Photography Through History. I have no idea why on earth I chose that topic. Simply boring.... Could have chosed something like The Development of Biotechnology. Hmmm, come to think of it, there isnt too much history on that topic...
But anyways, I am digging through a gazzilion of book and spent my morning at the library. I didnt finish as much as I wanted and had to lag a whole bunch of books home.
Here are some interesting quotes about Body in Photography:
1. Photographs of the body imply a larger politics of power and representation, and the owrk of many recent photographers, especially women, has been an attempt to change the terms of reference, most notably in relation to the nude female body, and amke the process of representation, rthater than the image of the body, the subject of the photograph.
2. The male figure is free to roam the gallery in search of female images and female forms. It is , as it were, a feast for his eyes. Such an image stresses the essential nature of the visual in terms of the body, and underscores how the eye invilves an entire cultural baggage as it focuses on the world of tis choosing. Freud referred to this as scopophilia, the pleasures of the eye.
3. Thus photogrpahs of the body speak to wider social and cultural assumptions...And yet invariably, this is dependent upon the passive and unknowing figure of the female being looked at and, once again, exposed to the male gaze.

Hm, I am still indecisive about whether to iclude this in my term paper. I am afraid it is going to make my teacher blush, poor sweetie (who is undoubtedly bipolar, btw)
