Home, cold home

Well, we're back from our jaunt to Arizona. Virginia is just like we left it, cold. It was 27ºF (-3ºC) when we left, and 27º when we got back. By the time we got back to Purcellville, it was 14º (-10ºC). When we came into the house, the heater was running, which was reassuring. But it was cold upstairs. And the clocks were wrong. The power had been off. Worse, the power had been off for a while. That meant the waterbed was cold. This is not a good thing. Our 120,000 BTU/hr (35kJ/s) heater can warm up the house rapidly, but the 300W (1023 BTU/hr) heater in the bed takes about 48 hours (172 × 103s) to heat up 2100 pounds (1135 liters) of water. Brrr. Worse, it's too late to pick up the kitties tonight. Blast, and such!
