the three ways...
when i was in high school, i had a number of feminist english teachers (thank heavens). one of them taught us this literaturial (sp?) theory-- something to the effect of- when you research different written works from long ago until even now, there is a common theme to how women react to their lesser placement in sociey-- either by 1) madness (insanity) 2. starvation 3. death (suicide). it was a very long and involved lesson and was probably one of the most interesting things i have ever learned. however, since then i have forgotten most, if not all of the details. has anyone else ever heard of this "theory" of sorts??
