The Kid's Got Talent (Or: 'Ratatosk: Warrior Squirrel')

Jun 23, 2009 08:40

I saw the coolest thing on my morning walk today.

This little tiny squirrel (tiny even for squirrels, he had to be juvenile) was taking on two squirrels much larger than himself. And holding his own, too- he was leaping, darting, pouncing- the shit was bananas, son. It was like watching a little fuzzy grey Yoda from Attack of the Clones. I can't imagine what the fight was about. At the time, I theorized he was protecting his nuts- good policy, under those odds! Eventually, the larger two realized they were getting nowhere against this little grey thunderbolt, so they ran off.

Get this. As they leave, the little one CHARGES back up his tree- and a few seconds later a robin explodes out of the leaves, making very disturbed sounds. He kicked the bird's ass, too!

Immediately, I named him Ratatosk, after the squirrel from Norse mythology. Little bastard's a berserker, and I should know.

I smiled at him, and he shot me this look that said 'Yeah, step up and take your turn, bitch.'

I walked on. I don't need that kind of fight today.
