BO

No not another post about spraying myself with Deep Heat instead of deodorant but a post about knitting.

So to add to the long list of language barriers I was totally stumped for a moment by the abbreviation BO - logically I knew I should have been casting off but my brain went BZUH! What the heck does BO mean?

*facepalms* BO is the abbreviation the Americans use for Binding Off.

*goes to cast off*

Oh. I am knitting bootees (booties to my US readers?) because I am going to be a great aunt (husband's niece is expecting). Now I know some of you are going, "Bootees? Ewwww" BUT trust me, I am knitting the coolest bootees ever*. They are so cool I want them to come in grown up sizes so I can have a pair.

*Okay so I've knitted the pair with bobbles on the top to begin with, and the Jester pair are way funkier, but that was just so I could get the hang of how the pattern was written - good job too, really given my BO confusion.

Question: Anyone know the best way to go about felting something not using a machine? The instructions on the pattern say Place booties in a mesh laundry bag. Toss in washing machine with a towel. Wash on hot and rinse on cold, checking periodically on progress.
But with our front loading washing machines, that isn't as easy as I think it might be for guys who have the top loaders I associate with American homes. For a start, every time I'd want to open the door I'd have to drain the machine :(
