Random NCIS Observations are Random (and probably been discussed already, elsewhere)

Because I tend to only really notice if numbers are involved - and then only *really* pay attention to the numbers - and because Legend aired only a few weeks ago and Enigma was repeated last night.

NCIS/NCIS: LA
There was much made by Callen during the Legend episodes about how it's been 18 years since *whatever* run in it was that Macy and Gibbs had. He repeats it twice. In conversation with Macy, Callen also muses something along the lines of how that would have made her... URGH! a Lieutenant(?) in the Military Police at that time. Then... Well I thought I remembered Callen asking her if she and Gibbs had worked a case together but - if Gibbs was still a Gunney then (see below) that wouldn't be right - so it might have been that he was asking her if she had investigated Gibbs?

NCIS (1x15: Enigma)
A delusional Colonel Ryan sends Gibbs a hip flask in the mail - it's engraved "To Lieutenant Colonel W.D.Ryan SEMPER FI Gunnery Sergeant L.J.Gibbs" and dated 1991, which is 18 years ago.

Now there's a lot of stuff going on in Enigma. Ryan spends a lot of time hallucinating a dead marine (Lieutenant Cameron) who died in Gibbs' arms, and when he begins to realise the guy is actually a figment of his imagination he falls to his knees saying he doesn't understand. A sentiment that Gibbs echoes - though it seems to me Gibbs wasn't talking about the present but whatever the situation was when Cameron died.

Casting aside the fact that Gibbs embracing his former C.O as he crumples to the ground is incredibly slashy* - to the point of OMG stop just stroking his head and kiss him better already! - I want these snippets of information to be interconnected.

*Fine. I am MORE than willing to not have to cast that aside and will definitely take a Don't Ask, Don't Tell scenario involving cosy weekends for 2 (or 3 if we include Cameron) at Ryan's cabin in the woods. And for *that* to be the reason Gibbs is no longer a marine.
