Show and Tell

So the weekend before last unfeathered asked me to beta Lessons Learned for her. I'd already seen the very first rough draft as she'd been kind enough to share when we were ironing out her Jack voice for the Rose thing. And I leapt at the chance because I'd seen how much potential it had. So anyway I got to the end of my first read through and mentally ( Read more... )

This is utterly, utterly fascinating - and even more when I read back through your emails... *g*

Thank you so much for sharing this. I wish you'd saved the original draft too! (Though I am definitely guilty of doing the same - I usually save over stuff until it's ready for beta and I really must remember not to do the same.)

OK, have to rush off and bath a certain someone in a sec so I'll be back later with more, but one thing I have to mention:

the Doctor's even still got his boots on - talk about armour - actually that was only because I couldn't find an unobtrusive opportunity for him to take them off… *g*

Which was exactly *why* I had Jack take them off for him before they did anything else *G*

Well, I guess I should thank you for that then! :-)

I'm just writing a longer response now, which may well come out longer than your original post - it feels like it! - but this is so very interesting I just want to say it all!

OK, this is going to be in two parts because it ended up being over 1,000 words long... (sorry!)

About the no sequel thing. Lessons Learned was only ever intended as a one-shot. I wanted to write Nine/Jack and prove I could do it, just as I did the Rose/Jack thing. I really didn't want to get to the end of it and discover that it was crying out for a series, mainly because I already have two series on the go, even if only one of them actually has more than one part posted - and I'm finding it hard enough to get back into Master Plan, let alone finding time for Connection, and I had a lot of ideas for follow-ups when I first posted that.

Also, when Jack said, "Want me to reciprocate?" to the Doctor, he honestly meant (in my head) it absolutely literally - i.e. return blow-job, perhaps with a bit of extra 51st century finesse, but as I'd more or less exhausted my blow-job descriptive powers by then, I really didn't want to write it. I don't think I could have written it ( ... )

I love it when people post about the way they write and the process they went through in writing. It's very interesting to me. And this is really funny and entertaining. I love the slammy doors and the threatening/bargaining with the characters. ::snerk:: Been there, done that *g*

The end result was just awesome.

I'm having a bit of an argument with Nine right now myself. Either that or I'm just getting in my own way. Little of both?

getting in my own way
I spotted that in fandom_me earlier but haven't caught up yet so I couldn't possibly comment ;-)

first off.. you ALWAYS deserve donuts. Never turn them down. it's bad luck to do so, and anytime you need some just ask!

secondly... *bursts out laughing* sorry... sorry!!!

*clears throat*

Tell Jack he should behave or you'll spank him!

If I'd known about the alien donuts soon enough I'd've dangled some in front of the pair of them but alas they came to late to rescue me.

I could never spank Jack...

How *many* did I just spot you've written for the SGA/Jack 'verse?

I have to go speak to someone but then I shall be coming to look *g*

Ta
I kept having apologise to unfeathered for it not being finished yet and telling her I'd explain all once it *was* up. I thought I might as well make it public ;-)

Though I'm sorry you had problems with the file
It totally wasn't your fault AND, as I said, it did provide me with the solution to the WTF moments that me and _medley had last week.

I love reading these things; I'm glad you did it and made it public.

And it kicked me into gear for doing my own look at my writing, which I needed really badly (good break). I'm glad I could help!
