Darn those mean city cats

Poor Harley (my calico) decided (against my advice and stern warning) to see what was the wide, wide world over the fence looked like last week. Her adventure got her as far as my driveway where she encountered one of the neighbour kitties. The meeting did not go well--those kitties raised on the gritty streets of downtown San Jose are a lot tougher than my wide-eyed innocent condo dwelling feline. I heard the hissing and snarling and ran to the rescue. I never even saw the other cat, just my fat housecat high-tailing it the opposite direction--she practically bowled me over. I spun on my heels and never even broke stride as I swooped her up and rushed her indoors. I checked her over and found one bite on a rear leg that didn't appear to break the skin and some other wet fur where she'd been slobbered on. I kept an eye on the leg and she appeared to get better the next day. I should've looked closer--BAD CAT MOM!! The leg was fine, but one of those spots I thought was just slobber was apparently another wound that did break the skin. This morning I found a bit of matted fur just above her tail and when I probed it a bit, it oozed pus. Ew. Abcess. SO... trip to the vet= $250, missing Beltane so I can do warm compresses all weekend=$(OK, nothing, but it's still a hassle), pics of my cat in a plastic cone collar=$Priceless.

The wound and the indignity of a shaved cat:

If I ever find out which cat did this to her, it will get my boot up its ass.
